AAM next week!

I am off to Chicago for a few days, attending the AAM meeting. I haven't been is a few years, wondering the baby boomers have taken over the place worse than they used to.

I may be connecting with the 13ers to seek respite. Cocktails anyone?

Thank you Loaners to Exhibits

Just in case anyone wondered, sometimes a signed loaned agreement doesn't mean you are guaranteed the loan. A certian sponsor just tried to pull a loan of a very high profile artifact for an upcoming show. We are still in negotiation but PULLING AN ARTIFACT IMPACTS THE DESIGN.

Its not a "free change"

Another close one.

Rock Star Guitars

Every once in awhile while creating an exhibit you come across watershed break throughs. This week it was guitars for the Rock Stars Cars & Guitars exhibit.

One minute we didn't have enough guitars, now I have more than enough including: a guitar played by Hendrix, a five necked guitar, Bo Diddly guitar, zz top guitars..... it just doesn't end.

Show opens in about a month, it's time to stop finding more stuff to add.

Glass Gallery in Greenfield Village

Another project we are working on is a glass gallery in Greenfield Village. The museum has one of the finest collections of American glass-- all of which has been in storage for some years. Our plan is to install the clooection in Greenfield Village in the building currently used as the Beer Guild.

Cool thing about it is that you will be able to have a beer while your looking at the glass, then go next door and see some being made.

Rock Stars, Cars & Guitars

Not that this blog has been going long enough for anyone to find it, I thought I'd post the press release for the upcoming show.

It is going to be sweet.

ROCK STARS' CARS & GUITARS CRUISES INTO THE HENRY FORD JUNE 9 Exhibit features some of the hottest and coolest rides of rock & roll

  • (Dearborn, MI – February 2, 2007) – Henry Ford Museum, part of The Henry Ford, in Dearborn, Mich., rolls out the red carpet to welcome a hip new exhibit, Rock Stars' Cars & Guitars, opening to the public on June 9, 2007. Eighteen legendary cars and a variety of guitars that are synonymous with rock & roll music are on display, including the rides once owned or driven by such beloved rock idols as Elvis Presley, John Lennon, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top and Van Halen.
Rock Stars' Cars & Guitars features cars and guitars from the collections of the Petersen Automotive Museum, Hard Rock Café, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Inc., and several other private lenders. This is a rare opportunity to see an entourage of automobiles that symbolizes America's love affair with their cars and rock music. In addition, several distinctive guitars including those from Kirk Hammet and Dusty Hill are also on display. The exhibit is presented by Detroit Muscle, a CMI-Schneible Group Company. Entry to this limited engagement is free with Henry Ford Museum admission or membership.
"Rock & roll and custom-car culture are important expressions of American freedom and individualism," said Christian Overland, vice president of museums and collections, The Henry Ford. "This exhibition presents an opportunity to see some of the iconic cars of rock & roll and understand the artistic expressions of the stars."
Some of the hottest rides in the exhibit include:
The 1965 Rolls Royce Phantom V owned by John Lennon and painted in a psychedelic, floral motif.
The 1949 Cadillac custom "CadZZilla", personally designed by Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, is one of the most recognized hot rod in the rock world.
The 1971 De Tomaso Pantera formerly owned by Elvis Presley is famous for its bullet hole shot by the King himself.
The 1932 Ford coupe, "Silver Sapphire" that appeared on the cover of the Beach Boys' album "Little Deuce Coupe."
The 1932 Ford Hi-Boy Phaeton hot rod that was used by Van Halen and featured in the music video "Hot for Teacher."
Other classic rides include the highly-stylized Harley-Davidson motorcycle, "Hogzilla", used by Billy Gibbons and a customized motorcycle used by Jon Bon Jovi. Rock Stars' Cars & Guitars at Henry Ford Museum will run until September 30, 2007.
Henry Ford Museum is open seven days a week, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $14 adults, $13 seniors and $10 youths; members and children four and under are free. For more information please call (313) 982-6001 or visit www.thehenryford.org.
